You can, if you think you can

Friday 19 October 2007 @ 3:10 am

by Sharon Eiffel
We gain success by inwardly knowing and feeling that we can achieve. We gain success by following the inspiration of strength of mind, willpower, call it what you may; it is self-discipline that is so desirable and deeper than the fathomless depths of living. We can achieve, because we think or truly believe we can. For example, when we doubt our powers, we fail to use them. Let’s learn a lesson from Henry Ford’s infamous quote, ‘those who think they can and those who think they cannot, they are both right.’ The power rests in us.

Keep in mind that a lower self-confidence leads to less action in applying oneself, contrary to that of high self-confidence leads to actively applying all you possess in talents, powers, gifts, facilities and resources in whatever task you have at hand.

Why do some individuals naturally feel they can? To find the answer to this, we must learn why they are confident. Then we may gain the same confidence and consequently it should follow that when we learn from them, we should be able to emulate their success.

All great individuals possess unique qualities as to why they are successful. It is the possession of these qualities which aids their success. The great news is that we can all acquire these qualities if we set our minds to.

Not all individuals who achieve great things have exceptional abilities; however, they do possess the power to turn all their abilities towards the most favorable clarification or enlightenment. All their powers move forward to reach the highest point into effective action. Their nature is not lost; rather everything is utilizes while working towards the greater goal.

To possess an exceptional ability, means great gain by providing power and applying all the ability required to succeed. You can and should develop your powers of ability. Not possessing an exceptional ability is no reason to avoid obtaining exceptional success. Moving the abilities you do possess to the front will help you realize a marked success immediately. This something causes all your abilities to move to the front, thereby gaining exceptional success, right now. You can gain that something and begin your successful life now.

You awaken you mind power when you think you can. When you think you can because you have conscious power that you can, you feel within the existence of your powers. With the feeling that you have the power to do as you wish, you no longer doubt, nor can you fail while proceeding to use your power.

How do you get this power and what makes the distinct positive impression of possessing such power? If you feel you cannot, it is hard to think you can, it is by thinking you can succeed that causes you to succeed. Not being able to feel the power within yourself that you can, will cause doubt, when you doubt you can, you suppress the ability and power that can. You gain success by replacing doubt with faith. Faith is the antidote to worry. In other words, you must actually feel, as you possess all the necessary power to undertake the task. You must know that you have the power, when you know it; you know it without a doubt. You know you can. You become aware of the necessary positive power within, as successful determination finds no peace, rest or happiness until you apply your power to the highest level.

Quick-Fix Delusion

Thursday 18 October 2007 @ 4:10 pm

by Craig Harper
Many of us don’t particularly like our life or at the very least, something about it.

We haven’t for a long time.
And while we have the ability to change, for some weird reason, we don’t do it.

By choice.

Or if we do change, it’s temporary.

Momentary even.
The reality of our life experience is totally in our hands but we try and convince ourselves it isn’t.

We tell ourselves it’s about a whole bunch of other stuff.

Anything to avoid responsibility.

It makes us feel better about what we’re not doing in, and with, our life.

We waste our talent and opportunities and then get mad at others for holding us back.

We have the knowledge, the skills, the resources, the reason and the time.

But curiously, we find a way to stay in the life we don’t want.

The body we don’t want.

The job we don’t want.

The relationship we don’t want.

The situation we don’t want.

And that’s hard work all by itself.

Even misery takes effort.

Some people seem to take some kinda weird-ass solace in their self-inflicted, crappy life.

What’s that about?

Welcome to my pity-party, leave your coat at the door.

We analyse things inside out and upside down and then do nothing.

Well, we do one thing.

Complain.

Okay, two.

Blame.

Alright three.

Procrastinate.

We get up each day and do what we did yesterday.

Because that’s what we do.

We do… the same.

We want change (the positive outcome)… but we don’t want to take the journey.

And if we’re not prepared to travel, we’ll never get to see what else is out there.

We lie to others and sadly, ourselves.

We get angry and defensive when people question us.

No matter how wrong we are.

We’re always planning our new, amazing life.

And then putting the plan in the bottom drawer.

With all the other amazing plans.

Fortunately for us, we always have a good reason for doing nothing.

It’s usually just a ‘timing thing’.

Or a ‘gut feeling’ thing.

You know those?

Others might call it a ‘bullshit’ thing.

Harsh.

Anyway, nobody has it as tough as we do.

They haven’t been through what we have.

They don’t ‘get’ us.

We are so misunderstood.

We keep wasting time, money and energy on things that don’t work.

When the only thing that really has to work, is us.

And when we work, our life works.

Pity we don’t like work.

We like gifts.

We want someone or something to ‘fix’ our situation.

We keep finding new and exciting ways to be irresponsible.

We alternate between adult us and teenage us.

We want the ‘grown-up benefits’ without the responsibilities and realities.

We tell others to do what we don’t do ourselves.

If life was a theory, we’d be incredible.

Pity it’s a reality.

We’re educated and smart though.

We read a lot.

We even dispense sensible advice to others.

We want amazing.

But we embrace mediocrity.

Every day.

After all, amazing would mean hard work.

And we don’t really like hard.

We like easy.

Hey, this is 2007 - hard work, discipline and self-control; are you kiddin’ me?

Such ridiculous, out-dated, archaic notions.

What is this.. 1950?

We’ll work smart not hard thanks.

Don’t worry about us; we’ll fall on our feet one day soon.

We’ve even given ourselves a name; the quick-fix generation.

We were gonna go with… ‘the fat, dysfunctional, drug-using, alcohol-abusing, responsibility-avoiding, excuse-making, time-wasting, frustrated, pain-in-the-ass generation’… but it was too long and we couldn’t fit it on our business cards.

And our lawyers advised us not to.

So we went for the ‘quick fix’ option.

Doesn’t sound so nasty.

The irony of the quick fix… is that it fixes nothing.

It destroys.

It’s sexy and seductive but ultimately, destructive.

It simply puts off the inevitable.

Activities on Team Building

Wednesday 17 October 2007 @ 9:10 am

by Crizza Reyes
Team Building Activities are stimulating problem-solving tasks designed to help group members develop their capacity to work effectively together. Many team building and initiative tasks are like kids games, others are novel, complex tasks and designed for specific needs. More elaborate initiative tasks can involve ropes courses, night-time activities, and exercises lasting over several days.

Several work environments require somewhat a bit of teamwork in order for things to run smoothly and with motivation to each in everyone. Team building activities are usually used to create a relationship between coworkers or co employee. On the other hand, various work environments want teamwork but the employees work separately. Employees working jobs like these really need team building activities to help them stay related with other workers.

Team building activities are often used in meetings, presentations, workshops, training seminars, education programs, corporate training, with college, high, middle, elementary and pre-school school groups, sport teams, teacher training, youth work, and correctional settings. Team building exercises can be adapted for virtually any setting, young or old, large or small, and across cultures. An important part of team building exercises is participants’ reflection and discussion about the activity, how they approached the situation, and possible points of learning. For example, a group could be videoed during an activity and the video watched, analyzed, and discussed, to help extract potential learning from team building exercises.

As the head of the sales department of a large company, I’m the one responsible to all, especially for the performance of all my employees. When sales are slow moving, I try to use different incentives to motivate everyone. I used to offer them bonuses and prizes for top performers to work well in order to come up improvement on productivity for a short period of time. But, this type of idea resulted to competitive atmosphere around the office, which is not what I wished for them to do. I want to utilize a team building activities in order to work in the office, so that my sales force work together to come up improvement on productivity, not to work as individual.

The first idea that I was made is contact the human resource department to let them know of my wants to implement team building activities among my sales force. The head over there told me that they don’t have anyone employees there that had that kind of experience in teaching them team building activities, so she suggested that I used outside or other consultants for that kind of job. I started to contact the names of a few local firms to find out about their services. I was very overwhelmed by the selection of team building activities these consulting firms proposed for my sales force.

Employee motivation benefits from team building games, exercises, activities, puzzles and quizzes. I try to use free team building games and exercises ideas to warm up meetings, training, and conferences. These free team building games are also great ice breakers for training sessions, meetings, workshops, seminars or conferences. Team building games and activities are useful also in serious business project meetings, where games and activities help delegates to see things differently and use different thinking styles. To ensure these team-building activities comply with equality and discrimination policy and law in respect of gender, race, disability, age, etc. Although some of the team building activities seemed way too intense for our particular needs, many sounded like they would be perfect for us. Best of all, he could teach us these team building activities over the course of a two-day workshop held right in our offices. This sounded pretty good, but unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get approval from my boss for the budget expenditure.

I didn’t give up on this; still I started searching for affordable or free team building activities online that contained excellent team building activities. I decided to try a couple of these first that I found online with a proof that this team building activities work well. And I have a better chance to my boss of getting approval for this kind of training in the upcoming.

In the end, I’ve programmed the first round of team building activities for next week. I’m taking in the process very seriously and am spending a lot of time in preparing on this so that I can be fit as a facilitator. I’m very optimistic about the effects of these team building activities will have on my sales force. If you help people with their life-balance and personal fulfillment they become more emotionally mature, tolerant, positive independent, self-sufficient, etc. When the person is okay, so is everything else, including their relationships and communications at work. Developing people involves more than behavior, relationships, skills, knowledge and processes. It’s often more about helping people feel better about themselves; helping the person to feel happy and fulfilled. A good leader can facilitate this. Team building doesn’t have to involve games and exercises - team building might be better achieved by arranging other things which appear to be unconnected to work.

Jobs like this include service oriented professions in places like restaurants and doctors’ offices. The focus of some team building activities involves taking the customer’s perspective. Anyone who has visited a restaurant and received excellent service only to return and not receive the same treatment is more likely to leave disgruntled than someone who had ordinary service to begin with.

Here’s my experience when I was working in one of the establishment as a waitress and I made sure to take extra time to accommodate customers special requests. While this worked well for me independently it really worked against my coworkers and there are times that you simply cannot accommodate every request. There’s an incident happened that, one of my regular customer encountered a different waitresses they were upset when special accommodations were not made. The manager handled this situation by introducing new team building activities that involved taking the customer’s side. I thought this accommodating approach would win over the “treat everyone equally” approach.

I’ve learned that through team building activities I know how to maintain a consistent front for the customer is far better than making special accommodations that can not always be encountered. Mainly, the team building activities centered on inconsistencies. People like consistency. Surprises, especially when it comes to meals, are not well received. One of the team building activities concerned in a taste test. It was a cooking work of art. After we done the test, the chef brought out the same dish. It had sour undertones that didn’t suit the taste of the food.

The second cooking work of art does not match the process of a nice testing, and the chef repeated it. He sent the second and the same dish and it tasted exactly like the original. I know that this second-rate dish wasn’t nearly as good as the initial sweet dish but we flavored the second because we knew what to expect.

The other side of team building activities can also help health care workers maintain consistent information to patients. I get frustrated when one nurse told me to stop breastfeeding after 12 months while a second nurse in the same pediatrician’s office suggested that I continue. The conflicting information communicated to me that this staff seriously needed team building activities.

Exciting and innovative team building activities are tailored for our clients to powerfully illustrate the importance of strong teams, and a strong culture. High impact and challenging, yet safe and inclusive, these signature events can be delivered for the entire company, specific business units or any project team or group within an organization. The mixture of action and learning is developed to suit your team and your needs.

A How to Know On “When You Need Help From Alchohol/Drug Addiction”

Tuesday 16 October 2007 @ 4:10 pm

by Robert Pardon
I doubt if anyone who is searching for answers doesn’t already know the truth, and the truth is that for some time now you have lost the ability to control your alcohol and or drug use. If you are not already convinced and further evidence is needed let’s take a look at your life.

The last time you drank or used, did you use more than you originally said you would, or leave for home later than you promised yourself or someone else? Have you ever lost a job, promotion, or days off work because of your usage? Do you show up on Monday feeling like garbage or start thinking about Friday night when you get to work Friday morning?

How about your personal relationships with friends, co-workers, spouse, family members and children? The list could go on and on. When was the last time you told yourself you were going to go “on the wagon” only to find yourself back in the same old situation shortly thereafter? Even when you are on the wagon and it does last for a week or two, or maybe even a month or two, the whole time you’re sitting on your hands, irritable, and in the back of your mind you are planning your next high. How often does one more turn into five, and five to ten?

You know exactly what I’m talking about so my questions to you are… How do you know when you need help? Does what I’ve written ring true for you? Or do you have a different means to judge your condition?

Have you ever been truly honest with yourself? The kind of honesty that exists at 2 o’clock in the morning, when the lights are out, and no one else is there. You know what the truth is, and the truth is you need help. Saying I need help and seeking help determines how serious a person is about change. I can say, all day long, that I’m tired of being overweight, but how tired am I if I’m not willing to seek change?

The problem with most of us is that when we do say we need help, that’s the last we think on it until we’re coming off a bad drunk or high. It is in that very time though that we need to put action to our confession. When we say we need help we need to follow that up with professional, spiritual, or personal assistance from someone who can offer a glimmer of hope.

Eight Surefire Ways To Stay Motivated

Saturday 13 October 2007 @ 4:10 pm

by
Do you have trouble finishing your writing projects? Do you sometimes wonder what’s the point? Do rejections make you want to give up all together? You’re not alone. Writing isn’t always fun, especially when your efforts don’t seem to make a difference. But if you want to succeed, you can’t stop. You must keep going even when you don’t feel like it. Here are eight great ways to stay motivated:

1) Read biographies. What you’re feeling or going through isn’t anything new. Find out how others worked through it. Find someone whose career you admire and read about how they kept going and the strategies they used. Read articles on various authors’ websites - many share how they’ve broken through doldrums and what helped them along the way.

2) Find a buddy. Find someone who you know will lift your spirits. Don’t go for anyone ‘sensible’ — their rational approach may not be helpful. Instead, it may feel like bad news. Find a ‘rainbow’ friend, someone who can smile in the rain of doubt and discouragement. Let them help boost your ego and give you the pep talks you need.

3) List your successes. We all have daily success, no matter how small. List them. Sitting at your desk, writing a paragraph, answering a phone call, all are steps towards your writing success. Far too often we forget them too quickly. Remember a time when you achieved something you wanted. Wouldn’t you like that feeling again? Then keep writing and you will achieve this and much more.

4) Treat writing as a job. Forget about being in the mood. Take the “I have to write if I want to eat” viewpoint even if it isn’t true. Like any job, there are the exciting things you like doing and the mundane. Staying motivated to write when you’re depressed after receiving your 20th rejection letter is hard. BUT, by continuing to do your job (write) your work (writing) will bring you the income you want.

5) Don’t critique your work. Just write. As a rule, we are our own worst enemy. You’re a terrible judge when you’re in a bad mood so forget about critiquing your work. Just put it down on paper, you can always go back and fix it later. At least you will have something to work with as opposed to nothing at all.

6) Use bribery. We all like pleasurable things and writing isn’t always so. Come up with a way to give yourself a treat after accomplishing a task. The task can be big or small, whatever works for you. There’s no right or wrong way to reward yourself. (Unless of course you treat yourself to a sugar-glazed donut for each sentence you complete!)

7) Create an audience. You can develop a newsletter or blog. Because people will be expecting something from you (either weekly, monthly or quarterly), you’ll be forced to continue writing. This is an excellent way to stay motivated because you’ll know that someone, somewhere, will be reading what you write.

8) Create a winner. On a wall or bulleting board, tack up the cover of the magazine you’d like to be featured in. Create a cover or use the existing cover of your book with a banner that says ‘bestselling author’ and dream about the success you’ll have when you’ve finished your current project.

Staying motivated can be difficult, but not impossible. Use one or all of the above tips to help you stay motivated. A successful writing career starts one word at a time.

Make Changes In Your Life Without Changing Who You Are.

Saturday 13 October 2007 @ 4:10 pm

by kacycarr
How many people can relate to that feeling where they have wanted to change something about them self or the way they live their life. More often than not when a person believes that they need to take another direction in life or worry over their teeth not being straight or their roman nose is roaming too far or that they are to fat is usually caused because of the way they are feeling at that particular time.

If you have your health then you have happiness and if you have happiness you haven’t got a care in the world so therefore wanting to change whatever it was you wanted to change before being given a clean bill of health is of no major threat in wanting changes in your life anymore.
How you can make changes in your life without changing who you are will include endorsing a positive attitude towards life in general and to think differently about what it is you want to change

3 Examples below:

1 If it is a facial feature you are not happy with like the lips having no strong kissable curve or if your nose is too big then why not consider doing something about it instead of making any rash decisions which may entail undergoing cosmetic surgery of which can only add to your problem if the operation is not successful. You will be surprised just how exciting and rewarding it can be, to turn ugly into beautiful, naturally. With so many types of cosmetics specially formulated for this reason and the right advice, the duckling turns swan.

2 People tend to feel at their lowest over financial issues, worry can result in a person wanting to seek change and move away, what is frightening about this is, is that their decision is made by their pocket (a situation) and not by them. For some, debt is somewhat unavoidable i.e. job loss or where illness prevailed, money problems have many people looking to change how they live or worse still end their living altogether. Mounting debt will continue to rise just like your blood pressure if you continue struggling to make payments you can “ill afford” thus making you sick which you can “ill afford” to have happen, where no payments are made at all. How to overcome this is by speaking to someone in the consumer credit agency who can advise you on how you can change payments making them more affordable.

3 If you live next door to the neighbour from hell, then you can consider moving, however this may not be an alternative for some folk who may love and have lived all their lives in the neighbourhood or face problems in finding a suitable new home, if this be the case, then do your best to accept your neighbours and their antics. It is at this time that those positives you have in thought will encourage you to ignore and pity these people “for they know not what they do” Strength in mind body and soul will leave you the most superior where you find coping more easily.

Wanting change in life disturbingly more often than not leaves many people with so much negativity in thought which is so powerful that they see no way forward, if you can eliminate the negative thoughts and change your way of thinking with more positives then you can challenge any causes for you wanting changes in your life. Remember “mind over matter.”If you don’t mind then it don’t matter”

Ask Yourself 12 Questions To Know Whether You Are Right Brain Oriented Or Left Brain Oriented

Saturday 13 October 2007 @ 2:10 pm

by Pradeep
I don’t know whether you are aware of the fact or not which I’m going to reveal you now. Your brain consists of two parts i.e. left brain and right brain and you can identify whether you are left brained or right brained.

Whoever be your governor either your right brain or left brain, you can predominantly improve the functioning of your brain with self-hypnosis.

Your attitude and your behavior depend on the fact that which side brain functions and controls your habits and actions. So, you can add a finished glance to your personality by improving the supremacy of your brain with one and only ‘SELF-HYPNOSIS’.

The functions of both the left and the right side of your brain are as follows:

Left Brain Activities

Reasoning,

Logic analysis,

One think at one time,

Language usage,

Mathematics,

Calculations,

Memorizing,

Memory of words and numbers,

Words of a song,

Thoughts,

Ruled by brain.

Right Brain Activities,

Music,

Intuition,

Several things at the same time,

Body language,

Artistic abilities,

Imagination,

Visualizing,

Facial expressions,

Tune of a song,

Day-dreaming,

Ruled by emotions,

Dreams,

Forms and patterns,

Images/pictures,

INTANGIBLE IDEAS

Love,

Loyalty,

Beauty,

Feelings,

Respect etc.

Answer this quiz to know that which half of your brain governs you the most. Your answers reveal your personality. Answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to the questions given below.

1. Are you creative by your nature?

2. Are you a daydreamer?

3. Do you love listening to/playing music?

4. Do you have a vivid imagination?

5. Do you dream in pictures?

6. Do you have a good sense of rhythm?

7. Do you like to know the reason for everything?

8. Do you have an aptitude for information and knowledge?

9. Are you a logical thinker?

10. Do you like to use the right word at the right place?

11. Are you fascinated by scientific facts?

12. Do you like to undertake only one thing at a time?

Here’s your score: If you answered yes to the questions from 1 to 6, then you are basically right-brained. If you answered ‘no’ to the first 6 questions, then you are left-brained and vice-versa.

The left brain oriented people are practical, logical and they prefer to deal with only one thing at a time whereas the right brain oriented people are sensitive, emotional and some of you may be left brain oriented or right brain oriented but a genius is one who strikes the balance between the two.

And more thing to remember, ‘Genius are not born they are made’.

Sometimes we require some of the qualities of our right brain and sometimes the need arises for the prospects of our left-brain. You cannot be simply practical all the times in your life nor can you be only imaginative. So, you have to strike a perfect balance among the two and this balance can be achieved with self-hypnosis.

If you are only left brain oriented, you will lack the sensitiveness in life or if you are right brain oriented, you will be imaginative and lack the practical character in life.

With self-hypnosis you can adopt both the prospective in life. This happens because self-hypnosis deals with that part of your mind with you hardly use.

So, enjoy both the aspects of your brain with self-hypnosis. With self-hypnosis you can
1. Be a practical person with imaginative character.

2. Improve the mental functioning of your mind.

3. Learn to cope up with different situations, surroundings and peoples.

4. Adopt the positive and well-developed attitude.

5. Be a ‘GENIUS’.

All these are possible with self-hypnosis because self-hypnosis is self-help as nothing can ever help you unless you decided to help yourself.

Self-hypnosis is a powerful tool that ensures your success.

Remember you have a genius in you; explore that genius with self-hypnosis!

Learn Self-Hypnosis to open new arenas of success and prosperity.

Take Back your Life: Stop Doing Things That Really Don’t Matter

Saturday 13 October 2007 @ 10:10 am

by Personal Success Coach Krissy Jackson
(…and a lot of things really don’t matter)

I work with a lot of stressed out executives in their 30’s who feel like their, life energy, hope and joy have been sucked out of them. What we find very quickly is that they are doing a lot of things that don’t matter instead of concentrating on the things they really do want in their lives.

What if you stopped doing things in your life that don’t actually matter? How would that change who you are? How much extra time would you have available to do things you really enjoy? How would this affect your health and well-being? And, what the heck does any of this mean?

How do you stop doing things in your life that don’t matter? Well, you need to take a step back. First, you need to decide what does matter to you. Figuring this out may involve doing some serious soul-searching. Your answers typically lay in the values you hold dear and these are often expressed in the vision you have for your life.

For example, what matters most to me is creating a better world for everyone and working with people who respect me for who I am and the work I do. I’ve actually taken it one step further to find out in detail, what I really want in my life. This way, I’m very clear about my “mission.”

Sometimes it isn’t easy to figure out what matters most. We can lose track of our life vision over time as we get pulled in a million directions and deal with life’s daily activities. In that case, consider working with a personal coach to develop clarity. I work with dozens of people in helping them to unearth their real vision.

The second step is to take a look at what you’re doing in your life. Where do you spend your time? What’s your profession, who are your friends, what groups do you belong to and what types of activities fill your days, weeks and months?

The tough step is next. Look for the disconnect between what matters most to you and what you’re doing in your life. It’s time to clean house (which could take months or longer) of anything that isn’t supporting what matters most to you. It’s time to get rid of what isn’t aligned with your vision and values. Stop investing your time and energy into people, ideas, events, and anything else which isn’t serving what is truly meaningful to you.

In the past few years, I’ve gone through the very process that I’ve outlined here. The results have been phenomenal. I have a lot more time to spend with my family and friends. I’m not overbooked with time-filling, busy-body, pointless activities. My business runs effortlessly and my life is virtually stress-free.

I defined what mattered most and then started removing everything that didn’t fit. Did this take a lot of focus, dedication and hard work? Absolutely. But anyone can do what I did. It all starts with taking the first step.

Anything worthwhile in life takes effort. You only need to have the drive and the desire to make it happen. I’m glad I took on the challenge because now I’m on a path that’s filled with daily joy and abundance. And, you can do the same.

One of Krissy’s clients says: “My confidence while working with you has grown tremendously as I have, for the first time, figured out what is most important. Alcohol And Drug Addiction Help; How To help Teenagers

Saturday 13 October 2007 @ 9:10 am

by Dave Richards
It’s not an easy task to find alcohol or drug addiction help for your young kid or teenager. Nevertheless this is an important task and as a parent you have no choice but taking care of it. A teenager’s life is full of contradictions and extremes, as young people are struggling to find out who they really are as well as wondering what their identity as adults will be, this is just normal. Due to teenagers particular mental stressors, it is a very easy way for youngsters to get caught up in an alcohol or drug addiction problem. Because of these stressors, they will almost always be in need for drug addiction help to get rid of their cravings for their drug of choice. Facts about alcoholism and drug addiction show that the highest rates of success occur with inpatient drug rehab.

Treatment, in terms of drug or alcohol addicted teenagers, must be tailored specifically to their needs. In grown-up cases, generic addiction treatments often do the trick. With teenagers however, the mind is still being shaped and the addiction treatment options must address the changing chemicals inside the teen. Make an informed decision and do your homework when it comes to picking drug addiction assistance facilities.

Of special concern to parents of teenagers with a drug or alcohol addiction problem is the issue of schooling. Many teens who have a drug or alcohol addiction problem have dropped out of school or have missed so much school that they have been suspended or expelled. In drug or alcohol rehab centers, teenagers will be required to attend school. The quality of education varies from program to program, but your teenager will have to attend classes. A drug or alcohol rehab center’s schedule is tight, incorporating academic classes as well as psycho-educational classes, group therapy, personal counseling and similar activities.

Parents should expect to be significantly involved with their teen’s drug addiction help, whether the teenager is in inpatient drug or alcohol rehab or outpatient counseling. Family sessions are required by many rehab facilities and highly recommended anyway. While it is surely not your “fault” that your teenager has a drug or alcohol addiction problem, family dynamics may play a contributing part in the underlying causes. Additionally, you and your teen have probably grown apart and may fight frequently. Your faithful attendance at family sessions will show your teenager that you love and care for him or her and are willing to commit to the teen’s recovery effort.

After your teen completes his or her inpatient drug or alcohol rehab program, you will need to make provisions for aftercare drug or alcohol addiction help. Your teen will most likely receive a referral to an outside therapist or psychologist and information about twelve step programs and peer counseling services as well. Make sure that your teenager performs all appropriate follow up work, as relapse is very common. Work with your teen and allow him or her to take some progressive responsibility for making his/her own aftercare decisions.

Do not punish or guilt trip your teenager about his or her drug addiction problem but rather encourage him or her in the fight for recovery. Recovering from a drug or alcohol addiction brings forth many feelings, some of which will be quite mean for both you and your kid. Provide a loving and supportive environment in which your teenager can heal and be prepared to do the necessary work on your side of the relationship. Alcohol or drug addiction help can assist you both in becoming closer and more trusting of each other.

No matter how old the addicted person is, facing the need of drug addiction recovery can be a real nightmare. For a person questing for identity like teenagers normally do, getting rid of an alcohol or drug addiction on top of all these other issues issues must be felt like a disaster. Fortunately, there are methods to handle addiction in teenagers successfully however, it requires professional alcohol or drug addiction help together with the teenager as well as the parents. Is Self-Motivation a Problem?

Wednesday 10 October 2007 @ 11:10 am

by Kay Drummond
Want some help? OK!

The first thing to do is grab a pen and paper, put on your thinking cap, and start thinking! What is it you would like to achieve? Now, before you do anything else, write this goal down. The mere act of writing your goal down will help keep your motivation strong. Make you more determined to achieve.

With me so far? Good!

Try not to make your goal one that you hope to achieve within a short period of time. Plan to make it become a reality sometime in the future. Then take this
main ‘big goal’ and break it down into small parts. Make sure each part is achievable. If you have any doubts about this, break that small part down to be even smaller.

Have you put them down on paper? Good! Hold on don’t rush off!

It’s no good writing them down if you are going to stick them inside a book, or tuck them away in a drawer! Pin them up where you can see them! Read through the list every day and cross each goal off as you complete it - wow I bet that feels good! The list is shrinking!

Don’t only read through the list, visualize how your life will be when you reach the final piece of your goal. Now hold that vision in your mind. Any time you feel your motivation begin to sag, call up that vision. Think strongly about it. Really concentrate hard on it. Imagine the sense of achievement you will feel knowing that you stayed motivated and on target with your dream.

If you have a friend who you know will help encourage your motivation, why not share your plan and ask if he/she will help you any time you feel that you want to give up?

It’s not always easy to stay self-motivated, even when there is something you really want to do. Other challenges may crop up in your daily life that seem to overtake any plans you had on working towards your goal. Try to stay centered on what it is you hope to achieve.

Don’t take the easy way out by saying you haven’t got time to get motivated. If you do this, you may feel good about your decision to give up initially, but when there is something you really, really want to achieve, it wont belong before regret sets in and you wish you hadn’t dropped your plans.

Sometimes to give in seems the easiest thing to do, but that could be because you aren’t feeling in the mood and have lost your self motivation. If this happens don’t forget to visualize the final successful outcome. This should give you the courage and determination to keep going.

Achieve one small goal at a time. No need to rush. Slow and easy will get you there every time.
